The volunteer team collected the winner’s prize in the Arts & Entertainment category.

It’s been the biggest year for our town’s radio project with record listening numbers, a fast response to the Covid-19 lockdown with a daily information service, the shift of production to remote working and the launch of our 24 hour radio stream.

The judges’ citation recognised the efforts made by project volunteers at Petersfield’s Shine Radio to step-up production at a time when the community needed it most.

“While still in its infancy, Petersfield Community Radio overcame the difficulties of remote broadcasting to bring us a daily Morning Report during lockdown containing essential local information, as well as the latest news and sports, and the weekly P pod.”

Project volunteer Noni Needs said:

“It’s amazingly rewarding to volunteer with Shine Radio, our listeners are the best and now it’s wonderful to know our work in the community is recognised by the Petersfield Awards judges.

We were nominated with TheStudio@TPS and children’s choir SOS for the Kids, both of which we’ve featured in Shine Radio programmes recently so we knew the judges had a tough call in this category.”

The awards ceremony was held online as a video presentation on 13 November. Organisers Hometown Festivals said they wanted to recognise our local heroes and businesses who are stepping up and helping out in this crisis we are all going through.
